hardynova's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- about a boy i read About A Boy today a wonderful book, highly recommended i'd already seen the movie, twice in fact and when i started reading it i realized that it was very well-adapted from its source material until about halfway through then they go off in entirely different directions before coming back together the book and movie are both great though, i just thought some very interesting choices were made one in particular, the year the movie takes place in, i believe 2000, or something near there the book takes place in 1993 (though published in '98) because of this, the role of music is different in the movie than it is in the book in the movie, rap is a large factor (particularly mystikal) in the book, it's all about nirvana nirvana, nirvana, nirvana if you're a fan, there's a lot of nirvana when seeing the movie, i'd wondered if the title was a reference to nirvana's "about a girl" now i know it must be (though neither that song or the album it's on is even mentioned) and kurt cobain's suicide actually becomes a plot device in the book as well and while reading this today i suddenly remembered today is the anniversary of the day kurt shot himself it's been nine years 11:29 p.m. - April 05, 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
